Android Phones and HEIC/HEIF Photos
HEIC isn't Apple-only: Samsung Galaxy and Huawei models with a 'high efficiency image' option also produce HEIF-family photos, usually as .heif. The compatibility pain is identical to iPhone's — and so is the fix.
Which Android phones use it
Samsung Galaxy phones have a HEIF pictures toggle in the camera settings (Camera → Settings → Advanced picture options); Huawei's equivalent is 'efficient photo format'. Most ship disabled — once enabled, the camera produces .heif files.
The same problem as iPhone
Won't open on old computers, rejected by some platforms, unrecognized by print shops — Android HEIF's compatibility pain matches iPhone's HEIC point for point. Different extension, same HEVC-in-HEIF reality.
How to open them
Android 9+ gallery apps and current Google Photos handle them natively; Windows needs the 'HEIF Image Extensions' codec. The lowest-friction path is still converting to JPG — then the recipient installs nothing.
Batch conversion
Move the .heif files to any browser and drop them into this site's tool. Format is detected from file content, so .heif and .heic are treated identically — the conversion flow is exactly the same.
