Browser-based tools

This site's WebP-to-JPG page: drop in, convert, batch supported, quality adjustable, files never leave your device. Works for the vast majority of cases, on mobile browsers too.

Built-in system apps

Open in Windows Paint and 'Save as JPG'; on macOS, Preview's Export. Zero installation, fine for one file — but one at a time, with Paint's defaults set on the low side for quality.

Command line for batches

ImageMagick's magick mogrify -format jpg *.webp handles a whole directory in one line with full quality control — ideal for developers processing hundreds of files. There's a learning curve; non-technical users shouldn't force it.

Common traps

  • Renaming .webp to .jpg doesn't work: the encodings differ, so a renamed file simply won't open. It must be re-encoded.
  • Mind your privacy on converter sites: most upload files to a server — be careful with personal images.
  • Spot-check the result: zoom into one or two converted files before trusting a whole batch.
